HELPS ON HOW TO LEAD A YOUNG PERSON TO CHRIST
(continued)

     3. Pray with the young person: Before praying ask the child what he wants to
pray. Help him review A, B and C.  "We can pray together, I will lead
and you can follow, you can make this a settled matter.
           a. Ask the child what has happened.  This will give him the opportunity to
confess  with his mouth.  (Romans 10:9,10)  Do not ask questions that
               can be answered by "yes".
           b. Allow God's Spirit to "bear witness with his spirit" that he is a child of
God.  Do not tell him that he is a child of God - this is the work of God's
               Spirit.
           c. Have the child share with someone close by as to what has happened in
                his life.  (Romans 10:9,10)

Practical Pointers in Encouraging Children to Accept Christ

1. It is not wise to have raising of hands as children are imitators and will copy their friends.  Invite them to come and speak to you or a Senior staff person after the meeting or anytime they wish.
2. Do not force a decision as often they will make a superficial response just to please you.
3. Always be available to the child.  It is always safest to put the initiative for response to Christ on the child.

Encourage him to express his need and desire to become a Christian.  In this way, you as leader can be more confident that God's Holy Spirit has done a convicting work in the heart of the child.
Dwight L. Moody once said, "None of my converts last. All of God's do."
