CSSM MB Summer Missionary Manual - General 11
FOLLOW UP FOR A NEW BELIEVER:
1. Underline a verse you used in helping him to accept Christ. (John 3:16; etc.)
2. See that he has a Bible and record his decision in the front - "My second
Birthday…
3. Give him verses of assurance. (1John 5:12,13; Hebrews 13:5; etc.)
4. Explain 1John 1:9 to him - "When a Christian sins ....." Explain Satan's attempt to cause
God's children to stumble. "God is greater than Satan and will give us victory over sin."
5. Encourage him to read a portion from his Bible every day. Also memorize verses
regularly. (Psalm 119:11) God's Word has a cleansing effect and will enable us to
have a clean, pure mind. (Psalm 51)
6. Encourage him to "talk to God in prayer" each day. Tell him he can come to God at any
time and ask for His strength and enablement. He should learn to praise and thank
God for all His love and goodness. Pray for his family and friends, too. (Philippians
4:6,7; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
7. It is important that the new Christian learns to witness for the Lord. He should tell his
family and friends what God has done for him. Warn him that they may make fun of
him and try to cause him to forsake Christ. Underneath they will be watching his life to
see if he really means what he says.
8. PRAY for this new Christian - seek to visit or write to him. He will need all
the encouragement that he can get. Always remind him that it is God Who
will help him to live the Christian life. (Joshua 1:5b and 6a)
