YOU AND THE MEAL TABLE

Meals are one of the best times of the day in camp. They should be relaxed and enjoyable, but they should also be a time to teach courtesy, politeness and thankfulness.

    • Maintain as much natural quietness as possible.
    • Do not correct grievous table manners in front of other campers.  Take the offending camper aside privately.
    • Never criticize the food in front of campers.
    • Insist upon normal courtesy such as “please” and “thank you”.
    • Discourage campers from referring to food in uncomplimentary ways.
    • Do not let the campers overload their plates.  Encourage smaller helpings with seconds to those who wish.
    • Food is something that should not be used as a means of discipline; do not take it away as a means of reprimand.
    • Check with the camp health officer if a camper claims he has certain food allergies.
    • Campers and cabin leaders must be fully dressed for meals, (including shoes) and should be neat and clean.
    • Sit with problem campers.  Many times they use misbehavior to get your attention.
    • During the meal, the server is the only one who is to leave the table.
    • All dishes must be scraped and washed after each meal, and the table cleared and wiped.  Campers will be assigned to do this task by the cabin leader on a rotating basis.
