CSSM MB Summer Missionary Manual - General 6
TEACHING A BIBLE LESSON:
I. GET READY!!
A. PRAY first. The Holy Spirit is the best interpreter of His own Word.
B. Begin with the ”hook” (in this case do the questions yourself).
C. Write a theme statement. The big idea!
D. Decide on your teaching method. This should answer what you are trying
to get across and what is your desired response
E. The “sinker”! Think through a question or story that will help your students to
understand why this lesson is important to them.
F. The “line”: the actual lesson
G. The “meal”: the application. This should cause your students to
realize they need to do something on the basis of what they have learned.
II. GET SET
A. Leave nothing to chance. Make sure Bibles are available. Make sure
that everyone has gone to the bathroom, etc.
B. Quiet people down by first giving them a chance to tell you what they
learned from chapel, how their days are going, etc.
III. GO:
A. Begin with the Bible verse.
B. Introduce the lesson and open with a prayer for God to help each one
understand His Word.
C. Do work book lessons. Make yourself available to help find
verses and answer questions. (This is a tremendous time for Junior
Cabin leaders & CIT's to be helpful).
D. Pull everybody back together to do the application activity that you have
planned. The goal is to have your students able to state what they plan to
do because of what they learned. (ex. Because of this lesson on the authority
of God's Word, I am going to get up fifteen minutes earlier to read
beginning in the gospel of John).
