HELPS ON HOW TO LEAD A YOUNG PERSON TO CHRIST
One of the greatest joys in life is that of leading another person to Christ. Since children are easily led, we need to exercise special care and discernment as we seek to lead them to Christ. Because children are so easily led, and because they have their lives before them, children have the greatest potential for evangelism.
A. Prerequisite Assurances for the Cabin leader:
1. Be sure that YOU have the assurance of your own salvation. (1John 5:13)
2. The assurance that you have no known sin in your life. (1John 1:9)
3. The assurance that the Lord can use His Word through you. (John 16:8)
4. Believe that children who come to Christ will be saved. ( Matthew 18:3,4 and Mark 10:14)
B. Actual Steps in Leading a Child to Christ
1. Ask the child some specific questions
a. Why has he/she come to you?
b. Do you want to know how you can know God personally?
c. Have you come to the place in your life where you know for certain
you will go to heaven when you die.
2. Share the gospel with the young person:
A. Help them to see their need. What did Jesus say has to happen in our
life so we can see Him? John 3.3
i. What is God like?
John 3.16 He loves you and me.
Mt 5.48 He has perfections for you and me and they are very costly.
ii. What are we like?
Rom 3.23 We are all sinners.
Rom 6.23a What are wages? Something you work for, something you earn!
iii. What has the God who loves us done for us in spite of the high standards He has for us.
Rom 6.23b What is a gift? Something that is free whether you take it or not! Rom 5.8
iv. Review why we need to be born again.
B. What do we need to do? It’s as simple as ABCD!
A= Admit your need. According to Scripture you are a sinner and
you need a Savior.
B= Believe on Jesus Christ as God's Son who died for you and rose
again. John 3.36
C= Come to Jesus. Matt 11.28. Coming involves a willingness to turn
from anything that God does not want you to do. This is called
repentance. Acts 17.30. It also means receiving Christ as
God's provision for your need. John 1.12
D= Give freedom of choice! The ball is in your court! Your
options are:
